Thrifty Treasures

It's Monday again and time to join Rhoda http://southernhospitality-rhoda.blogspot.com/ for
Today's Thrifty Treasures. I love seeing everyones great buys!
I bought this deck of cards at a yard sale for 50 cents. The lady is so pretty and all the cards have different scenes of the US and Canada. It looks vintage to me!
The hope chest was a bulk pickup find a few weeks ago, and I came up with the idea to converte it into a file cabinet.
My dilemma is how do I update this? It's going into a craft/office/music room that will be all mine. A friend suggested decoupaging music on top. I love that idea. I'm thinking copying old music and doing exactly that. Help on updating this would be greatly appreciated.
I love comments and throw your ideas at me!!

Great idea! Love the chest and turning it into a file cabinet was a brilliant idea! It will look wonderful decoupaged with sheet music. You might even consider painting it black. :)

Thanks for visiting my blog! Hope you will come back! ~Rhonda

Those playing cards are adorable! Love how they look!

Where is that converted-filing-cabinet thing made? I have an old trunk (maybe 75 years old-ish) that looks really similar to that - the legs, hardware and design on the bottom. I'll have to go read the stamp on the bottom of it, but I believe it was made in Quebec. It just made me curious if they are from the same place!

You could change out the hardware on it and that would totally change the look with very little effort.

I love what you did, a really professional looking job. I think the idea about decoupaging with sheet music is a great idea and painting it black. I have refinished a ton of things over the years and love to do it even tho I don't much anymore.

I think your friend's idea of decoupaging is an excellent idea :-)Old music sheets on top ........ mmmmmm lovely Mary. Have to say, that's one organized file cabinet :-)

Those vintage cards are nice!Love the black and whites and how they have different views. if I haven't seen the front side with the numbers, I'd think they're mini photos taken :-)Of course, the lovely lady with bright colors is a beauty too!

Such a great idea to convert to a file cabinet. I love office furniture that doesn't look like office furniture, you know? The music on the top would be so pretty!
