Happy Pink Saturday

While my father was in Italy fighting in WWII, my grandfather was at home relieving some of his stress embroidering. He embroidered this twin bedcover. The pink has faded but the embroidery threads look to be as vibrant as the day he stitched them.

I have no twin bed to use it on and its faded and discolored in places. I have wondered should I cut it up and make some type of altered art and give each sibling a peice..or should I keep it in it's aged appearance. What would you do?

Wow what a man with patience. Can you get the discolorations out with the stain remover that is made for baby cloths I think it is called snowy. Thanks for sharing. gina

What a beautiful bedspread! What a lovely story. If it was mine, I couldn't bear to cut it up. The memory is too precious. Happy Pink Day!

Hi Mary!
Wow, I don't know if I could cut it up but if some parts of it are really bad then I probably would cut the best pieces from it. If it's not to badly damaged then no...I would not cut it up. It's too precious.

Have a great Pink Saturday!

What I would do is to get a nice blanket that would fit the back nicely, then machine quilt the embroidered piece right over the top. It would gain the stability of the blanket and you wouldn't have to destroy the original.

I think real men aren't afraid to use a needle and thread. Don't you agree? That is beautiful.
Happy Pink Saturday.

What a precious piece. I am going to differ from your other comments. If you are just folding it up and putting it away, no one is enjoying the work. If that is the case I would cut it and frame for each of the siblings/family. What a tresure to give as a gift!

hi mary

i read your blog twice, i'm amazed your grandfather did this. i would consider cutting away the areas where the embroidery work isn't. then have it framed. it will remain intact forever behind glass.

What beautiful work the grandfather did. It's just beautiful..and such a treasure to be able to touch stitches he did. Please don't cut it up..that would be a shame..leave it the way it is.
Happy belated Pink Saturday and have a lovely week.

HELLO MARY,
HAPPY LATE PINK SATURDAY.
I AM STILL MAKING MY WAY AROUND TO EVERYONE ON THE LIST. WHAT BEAUTIFUL WORK. I WOULD CERTAINLY LEAVE IT TOGETHER IF I COULD...IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL FOR FAMILY TO RECEIVE PIECES OF IT BUT SOME PEOPLE DO NOT EVEN CARE ABOUT THINGS LIKE THAT...NOT MEANING ANYTHING DISRESPECTFUL TO FAMILY I DO NOT EVEN KNOW......IT IS JUST SO SPECIAL TO COMPROMISE THE WORK PUT INTO IT.
BLESSINGS
